MUDCLOTH PUMPKINS

For as long as I can remember I have carved a pumpkin every year in the spirit of Halloween. This year I decided to try something new and paint my pumpkins instead. I was inspired by painted pumpkins I had come across online as well as my mud cloth fabric I brought home from a recent trip to South Africa.

For this DIY project I used Sugar Pie Pumpkins because I was planning on painting a few and their small size makes them easy to paint. The paint I used to cover the pumpkins was black and ivory matte acrylic paint and Copper acrylic paint, both from Michaels. For the pattern I used white oil paint marker that I also found at Michaels and a black sharpie. I found it really helped to coat the pumpkins in several layers of paint and then draw the pattern onto the pumpkin with a pencil first so that I could erase and start over if I needed to space it out better. The paint dries really fast and I was able to finish all 3 in one afternoon! I'm very happy with how they turned out and look forward to trying some new designs next Halloween.
