THE DESERTED BEACHES OF THE MADDALENA ARCHIPELAGO

Sardinia has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and we planned on exploring them as much as we could during our visit. I had read about La Maddalena Archipelago, a group of islands off the coast of Sardinia infamous for their turquoise lagoons and deserted islands accessible only by boat. After seeing a few images online we knew this was somewhere we couldn't miss.

We decided to stay 1 night on the main Maddalena island and spend 2 days exploring the surrounding islands and beaches. As the boat rentals are in the Maddalena harbour we thought it would save us time to stay nearby and be able to spend all day on the boat without having to take a ferry back and forth from Sardinia. We chose this boat rental company which turned out to be amazing. I would caution however that you pay attention to their instructions regarding the boat propeller as you will be charged a hefty fee if it is damaged. The boats are extremely easy to operate if you are someone who has never driven a boat before and might be apprehensive about doing it. We were given a map of all the beaches to visit and we found the earlier we went the less people we saw. There were a few times we even had whole the beach to ourselves!

The pristine beaches and crystal clear water were nothing like I have ever seen before. We also saw some rock formations on the cliffs lining the islands that were quite beautiful as well. Although we've had so many unbelievable experiences on this trip, my most memorable were the 2 days we spent exploring the Maddalena Archipelago by boat.
