AN AFTERNOON AT BABYLONSTOREN

If you're ever in the South Africa wine region I would highly recommend visiting the Babylonstoren Estate.  Dating back to 1692,  this property now features a hotel, spa, farm-to-table restaurant, and 8 acre fruit and plant garden.

My lunch here was one of my most memorable in South Africa. Babel restaurants farm-to-table philosophy means that their menu is guided by what is available in their garden. My favourite dish was the mushroom and parmesan risotto - it was unbelievable. Other dishes included a steamed cabbage parcel filled with spicy prawn slightly smoked trout bobotie, served in a fresh turmeric & orange blossom broth. I also tried the green salad with broad bean tips, edible flowers, a Thai green curry vinaigrette and deep fried ginger. After lunch I toured the gardens and ended the day in the gift shop. They have some amazing items and I wish I could have brought more home!
